Install JM Connect Pilot on a Mac

This guide explains how to install JM Connect Pilot and allow the Mac features you want to use.

Choose the right download

There are two Mac versions:

If you are unsure, open the Apple menu → About This Mac and look for Chip or Processor.

Install the application

  1. Use the Apple Silicon or Intel link above to download the correct .dmg.
  2. Open the downloaded DMG.
  3. Drag JM Connect Pilot into the Applications folder.
  4. Eject the DMG.
  5. Open Applications, then open JM Connect Pilot.

Always run the installed copy from Applications rather than opening the app directly from the DMG or Downloads folder.

Approve the current beta version

The current downloads are beta versions and are not yet Apple-notarized. macOS will normally say that Apple could not verify the application.

To approve that beta:

  1. At the warning, click Done.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down to Security.
  4. Click Open Anyway beside JM Connect Pilot.
  5. Confirm with your Mac password, then open JM Connect Pilot again.

Only use Open Anyway for a beta downloaded from the links in this guide. If macOS says the application is damaged, download it again and contact JM Robotics support instead of bypassing the warning.

Allow the features you use

macOS asks for permission when JM Connect Pilot first uses certain features. You only need to allow features that you intend to use.

macOS permission What it enables
Local Network Connecting to ROVs, cameras, sensors, and other equipment on your network.
Microphone Voice communication and mission audio.
Camera Video communication and mission documentation.
Location Services Showing your position on the map and adding location to mission data.
Screen & System Audio Recording Sharing a screen or window during remote support. Older macOS versions call this Screen Recording.
Accessibility Global keyboard controls and remote-support keyboard or mouse control.
Input Monitoring Global keyboard shortcuts.

You can review these permissions at any time under System Settings → Privacy & Security. Select a permission category and enable JM Connect Pilot.

If JM Connect Pilot is not listed, return to the app and use the feature once so macOS can display the permission request. Some permission pages also have a + button that lets you add JM Connect Pilot from Applications.

After changing Screen Recording, Accessibility, or Input Monitoring, quit JM Connect Pilot completely and open it again. In some cases, macOS may ask you to log out before the new permission takes effect.

After an update

Beta updates may ask you to approve the application or grant screen and input permissions again.

Troubleshooting

  • Make sure JM Connect Pilot is installed in Applications.
  • Make sure you downloaded the Apple Silicon or Intel version that matches the Mac.
  • Quit and reopen the application after changing a privacy permission.
  • If screen sharing does not work, check Screen Recording permission.
  • If keyboard shortcuts or remote control do not work, check Accessibility and Input Monitoring.
  • If the application cannot find local equipment, check Local Network permission and the Mac's network connection.
  • If macOS reports that the application is damaged, delete that copy, download it again, and contact JM Robotics support if the message returns.
